See you in Zion!

Last weekend my ward went to Zion National Park for our super activity. And let me just tell you, it was one super activity! No but really, it was awesome! I haven’t been to Zion’s in probably 15 years so I pretty much didn’t remember a thing.

The first full day we were there we did the Narrows hike. It was awesome! This is towards the beginning of the hike:

The slot canyons were so amazing. And they get much narrower later on but I didn’t make it very far (only a couple hours in). It’s such a great hike for a hot summer day, though, because you’re in and out of the water and in the shade a lot because of the narrow canyon walls.

Just make sure you wear sturdy shoes, oh, and a walking stick would be helpful, too. I decided next time I’d love to repel in somewhere further up the canyon and hike down. Anyone want to join me? Just a warning, though… I’m a slow hiker because I like to stop and take lots of pictures, and I can’t walk and take pictures at the same time. I’m typically good at multi-tasking but walking and taking pictures is not my forte. I do thank you three ladies who were constantly waiting for me to catch up during the whole hike.

The second day I opted out of the Angel’s Landing hike, although it sounded awesome. My poor hamstring suffered a bad injury in volleyball a few months ago and I just keep forgetting to give it time to heal. So I went on the Emerald Pools hike.

This is standing underneath the first waterfall into the lower pool. I do remember this from when I was a kid. I thought it was SO amazing that you could stand behind a waterfall! (And I still do!)

The view from the middle pool was amazing. Such a beautiful sight! But, I gotta be honest with ya, I was a little disappointed in the upper pool. When I was a kid you use to be able to swim in the upper pool, and there were often people getting baptized in it, too. Now, it’s hardly a pool and I don’t think they let you swim in it anymore. It was still beautiful of course, but the falls into the pool were so tall I couldn’t fit it all in one picture. So instead, I’ll show you this butterfly that was flitting around the pool.

Now THAT would be a glamorous life, eh? Being a butterfly in Zion National Park. She’s got it all figured out, it’s all about location, location, location!

Yeah, I wouldn’t mind that view as my backyard. It seems much more low-maintenance than my backyard currently is, and it’d be really easy to clear some room for a sand volleyball court (which is one thing we searched and searched for but never found down there)! It’s all right, perfection is hard to achieve!

For those of you who were there, I hope you had as great a time as I did. And for those of you who weren’t there, I missed you, and you should definitely come with me next time (or invite me to come next time you go down)!

Signing off… -ME

PS. Is it Friday yet?

You are a really good Photographer. The trip sounds way fun and it brings back memories for me. Do Angel's landing someday when your foot is better. It's amazing!
