A couple weeks ago I traveled to Cheyenne, Wyoming for work. It was an… interesting experience. I was shocked at the relative lack of snow. I’d left Utah in the morning where there was a foot of snow on the ground. That afternoon in Cheyenne there was absolutely no snow… anywhere! I asked the locals why and their response: “It blows away quicker than it ever comes”! Oh, joy… I knew I was in for a good time!
The city itself actually grew on me. The Air Force Base itself was extremely charming. It was originally built as a Calvary base. All the buildings are built from red brick and the homes have white columns on the porches. So cute. Here are some pics (sorry for the blur, it was a drive-by-shooting... get it?!). This first one is my dream home!
The old horse barns have been converted to offices or shops. The homes are still in use.
I was in Cheyenne for 10 days so the weekend was a long one with nothing to do. On Saturday I drove an hour south to Fort Collins and went shopping, then I got a massage.
That night, while I was recovering from my massage (and by “recovering” I mean “doing absolutely nothing” because I’m so relaxed I can hardly lift an arm) I was laying around the hotel room in my favorite t-shirt:
And discovered that my hair decided to have a mind of it’s own:
I call it the cockatoo look.
And yes, I was obviously REALLY bored at this point.
Sunday I went to a local ward where it became extremely clear that I was in farm country. A couple of observations:
In Utah, many of the young children play with cars during sacrament meeting.
In Cheyenne, they play with small plastic farm animals instead.
In Cheyenne, they play with small plastic farm animals instead.
A woman, during her testimony, was trying to state the difference between two things. In Utah, a person trying to make the same point might’ve said, “Some people like chicken, some people like beef.” In Cheyenne, aka Beef Country, however, the statement is made, “Some people like steak, others prefer ground beef.” It's not a choice of whether or not you eat beef, it’s what type of beef you eat!
As a last thought… the morning I left for Cheyenne I had the feeling I’d forgotten something but for the life of me couldn’t figure out what it was. When I got to the hotel room that night I realized that what I’d forgotten was my scriptures. I was bummed but I could still pull them up on the internet to get by but I was so happy when I opened the nightstand drawer and found this:
The church is true!

I love the T-shirt!
I am glad to know at least the church is still true steak or hamburger.
